240115 MLK Day
Every year on the third Monday of January we have the opportunity and privilege to celebrate a man who lived a life dedicated to justice, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King’s legacy runs through our country’s core. Not only did he refocus the public eye on civil liberties, but he reimagined what it means to be a “melting pot” country. I will forever be grateful for how he changed our nation.
As I reflect on Dr. King’s courage, I am reminded that equity in the United States has never been a guarantee. However, I am renewed with hope as people across Tennessee, the greater south, and the whole country further the fight for progress. I see the faces of the next generation and I see hope for our nation. The passion they lead with is inspiring, and through their courage, the building blocks that Dr. King laid are more evident than ever.
The movement for justice is growing by the day, and as it progresses, I grow more thankful for the revolutionaries that came before.
Wishing you a reflective and meaningful Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
